How the Calculator Works
Area=Length × Width
Base Material Cost=Area × Regional Rate
Waste Cost=Base Cost × Waste %
Installation (optional)=Area × Regional Labour Rate
Boxes Needed=⌈ (Area × (1 + Waste%)) ÷ Box Coverage ⌉
Regional rates are sourced from 2026 supplier averages. US and Canada use sq ft, UK and Australia use m² by default. Full flooring cost estimation guide →

Flooring Calculator Questions
Standard laminate or vinyl: $3.50–$5.50/sq ft in the US. Engineered hardwood: $6–$10/sq ft. Solid hardwood: $8–$14/sq ft. UK, Canadian, and Australian rates differ — use the calculator above to see accurate 2026 regional pricing.
Divide your total area (including waste allowance) by the coverage per box. Most laminate and LVP packs cover 20 sq ft (1.85 m²). Tile boxes typically cover 10 sq ft. The calculator shows the exact box count — always buy one extra pack as a repair spare.
10% for rectangular rooms (default). 12–15% for L-shaped rooms or rooms with alcoves. 15–20% for diagonal or herringbone patterns. Never order the exact measured area — you'll run short.
Materials only by default. Use the "Include installation estimate" toggle to add regional labour rates. Professional installation adds $3–$8/sq ft in the US, £15–£35/m² in the UK, and A$28–$55/m² in Australia.
US and Canada default to sq ft. UK and Australia default to m² — matching how materials are sold in each market. You can manually switch the unit toggle at any time.
